Green Dilemas!

Well, the girls' birthday party is coming up and I'm struggling with how to make it a "greener" birthday party than the normal party of plastic and disposables. So many of the greener options are much more expensive than their less environmentally friendly counterparts such as the flatware made of corn rather than plastic. The Farmers Market has some plates that are made from 100% recycled yogurt containers and paper plates that are 100% recycled and not bleached as well as compostable. Both of these are good options except for the expense. I went into the party store the other day and couldn't believe all the junk and plastic coated everything. It's amazing how you start to look at things when you begin to be aware of what happens to things AFTER you are done with them. I suppose the recycled plastic plates are the best option and I can just have a tub for people to dispose of them in so I can take them home and wash them. We'll see, it will be interesting to try and do a birthday party with little to no waste.
