Christmas Tree Hunting

We got our Christmas Tree today! We went to Manthey's on Axton and got the most beautiful Normandy Fir. It smells so good in the house and the branches are strong and the color is so pretty. Despite my unfortunate arachnid situation last year I am not about to give up on fresh cut Christmas trees. Above is Madison hunting out a tree with us. She is wearing the new hat I made her, she loves it. I wish Kennedy did.

There she is! We went with some friends who actually spotted the tree and said it would be great for us since we were looking for a little bit taller one this year. This is our favorite tree to date.

Here it is once we got it home and in the stand. Although we loved how full it was at the bottom we soon realized we couldn't get any presents underneath and it would be difficult to water so Eric trimmed the bottom row of branches to make it easier. This picture is before the trimming.

The above picture was from Day 3 on our Advent Calendar. We made these star shapes out of foil cupcake liners and put them on some of the lights to reflect the light. They are really neat and we might do a few more in the coming days to add to our tree.

Here is the tree after the lights and just a few ornaments. Wow, Madison had a great time hanging ornaments this year. She put almost all of the hooks on the ornaments and hung so many herself. She was glowing today and had so much fun decorating the tree. Her sister had a great time playing with the ornaments herself. We only suffered a few casualties and saved one with the help from Super Glue.

It's getting there!

Ta-Da! It's a bit top heavy but we didn't want to put anything breakable or fragile down low. We love how it turned out and can't wait to add more homemade ornaments as the month progresses.

Yes, those are Barbie ornaments all over the tree. We can't use all of our ornaments because we have too many so Madison picked out the ones we were going to use and it turned out to be a lot of Barbie ones. Eric and I used to be big on the Hallmark ornament collecting and we have lots of Barbie and sports ones among other things but his are packed away back in the garage. Madison did allow him a few of his favorites.

Poor Kennedy has the generic red stocking. I need to make her one but am waiting for Eric to wear out a pair of his Levi's first.
It was such a fun day spent with family. Each year Christmas gets that much more special as the girls grow up and learn more about it and are so taken by the magic of the season.

Jen - we went and picked out our tree yesterday too. The whole time, I was freaking myself out remembering your spider tree from last year! I came downstairs this morning and did a quick inspection - no insects. Whew! It's funny now (hee, hee), but I'm sure it wasn't then.
