Eggs & Potty

I volunteered to feed some animals for a friend while she is out of town. I thought the girls would have a great time going to the farm and seeing the animals and helping to gather eggs (or at least watch me do it). The first day I was to go was really windy and cold and my daughter informed me she had NO desire to be outside in it so I got a sitter for an hour and went on my own. I had fun and decided I would like to have chickens one day (I may change my mind but HOW fun!). I gathered some beautiful eggs that I got to bring home and fed the cats, chickens and turkeys. Yesterday Eric was back home so we all went. Kennedy was slightly apprehensive to go in with the turkeys but it didn't take her long to go right in and grab some food to throw to them. Madison didn't go inside but enjoyed watching. It was fun, even in the pouring rain.

Throwing some food for the turkeys.

We'll head back there today for our final day of feeding the animals. I can't wait to eat some of those delicious eggs!

This particular morning I had to get a shot of Kennedy's "nest" from sleeping all night. I was hoping the haircut would help with this "nest" we wake up to every morning but....not so much. I still haven't gotten her hair fixed but hopefully we'll be able to do that next weekend.

This is the image I walked into the other day. Kennedy had disappeared and I didn't know where she went so after a few minutes I went looking (it was just a little too quiet for me). Not only was she sitting on the potty but she also "went" and wiped herself. I have never been in a hurry for either of my kids to potty train. I feel like they will do it when they are ready and I just can't fathom that a 2 year old (not even 2 1/2) is ready. I also don't want to hold her back if she truly is ready. She went several times that day (not always actually going potty) and she even pooped in the potty a couple of hours after this picture. She always wants "privacy" so when I checked on her sure enough there was something extra in the toilet. She seems very matter of fact about this and I was so proud I let her go ahead and wear panties instead of a diaper the rest of the day and the next as well. She had a couple of accidents but did really well. I was out yesterday for a bit and when I picked the family up to head to the farm and feed the animals Madison must have helped her back on with her clothes after Kennedy removed her own diaper because a couple of hours after we left the house we were at the library and Kennedy had an accident while Eric was holding her. None of even knew she didn't have a diaper on. We were quite impressed she held it that long actually. She's growing up whether I like it or not and I must let her. Good for you Kendy Coo!
Yesterday I met some friends for breakfast at Mount Bakery downtown. It was such a cute little restaurant that is part of the Slow Food Connection and it was delicious! I can't wait to go back there, they had the most beautiful pastries. We hung out there for about 3 hours and then went for a walk downtown. It was such a fun morning spent with friends and I realize how much I enjoy these and need to make more of an effort to do them more often.
Eric is off to work in Wenatchee later this afternoon and will be back Wed. night so he can watch the girls for my class on Thursday. I'm ready to get this class under my belt but wish the break could have been a little longer.
Our New Years' was nice but uneventful. We went to a potluck for a few hours but were home by 9:00 p.m. The girls went to bed and I was up at midnight watching a movie. Eric was in Wenatchee sleeping. I just have to mention this.....are you aware that people actually DON'T recycle? I was disturbed to see a party with tons of aluminum cans, plastic bottles, etc. just going into the trash can. I really should have brought them home myself to recycle but I thought that might seem rude. Not only did they not recycle but the conversation was brought up and NOBODY there recycled. WHAT???? I don't want to get on a soap box here but how could people not recycle? Do they not care at all about this place we live on? Do they not know that this stuff not only doesn't go anywhere but it also pollutes the ground? I am not trying to sound superior at all because there is so much more I could be doing but I thought everyone, for the most part, recycled. It's the most basic, easy and important thing we can all do. They couldn't make it any easier for us.....they come right to our curb and pick it up for goodness sake! There is only so much space on this earth. Okay, I'm stopping now but please people......recycle. It's so important.
Moving on.....Last year we started a fun tradition of a time capsule. I typed up several questions and answers from the girls about their favorite things (books, foods, ice cream flavors, etc.). It was lots of fun to read over the responses from last year and see how things have changed. We did new ones and packed them away with the Christmas stuff to read again next year as well as do new ones. My favorite questions was "how tall do you think you will be a year from now?" Madison said 6 ft. tall and Kennedy growled at me. Fun stuff.
I recently re-read my New Year's Resolutions from last year that I posted on my blog and didn't do that well with them so I am not going to repeat myself with more. I am starting the gym again tomorrow, it's been far too long. I really need to get back in there, I felt so much better when I was going. It's been a tough year for all of us and all I can hope for the New Year is that we can get Eric some work with the hope of finding something locally before too long and get us back to some sort of normalcy as well as all of us eating better and getting more exercise. If those two things happened I would be incredibly grateful and content in the New Year. Happy New Year to all of you!
