Decades Day

I made my first attempt at tie-dyed t-shirts this past week. Madison's school was having a Decades Day where they could dress up reflecting any decade they wanted. I needed to think of something for Madison that would allow her to participate but also not seem really "dressed up" and it didn't take me long to think "hippie!"

The shirts turned out so cute when I unbanded them but they faded SO much when I washed them. I successfully tie-dyed a peace sign on Madison's shirt but after the fading it was barely recognizable. I also hadn't prewashed Madison's shirt and I did Kennedy's and you can see in the picture how much brighter Kennedy's shirt is. There is sizing on clothing that needs to be washed out in order for the dye to soak in.

Regardless, she looked adorable and wore a peace sign necklace with flower clips in her hair. I couldn't just dress one girl up so Kennedy enjoyed wearing her shirt that day too. School is so much fun!

unfortunately unless you use a "commercial" grade dye they will fade :(
Rit or any of the others that you buy at Joann's or Michaels tend to fade just like that. Cold water wash in Vinegar can help a bit but sadly it just doesn't hold up.
