Food Bank Line
I've donated to the Food Bank in the past but today was the first time I delivered food to the food bank when people were lined up outside for food. I really wish I could have had my four year old with me so I could try and talk to her about it and explain it to her that it feels good to help people who aren't as blessed as us but she was at preschool, I will definitely take her next time. I felt a little awkward, I wasn't sure if I should try and make eye contact with people. I wasn't sure if people felt embarrassed to be there or if they wanted to see a smile and hear a "good morning". It was a very sad thing to see children waiting in that line with their mothers. I have felt an overwhelming sense of appreciation and gratitude since Eric lost his job last September and we were faced with such a difficult time. I know not everyone is lucky enough to find another job so quickly in this economy. Waiting in the line at the food bank seems so far removed from where we are but I wonder just how long it would take to be in such dire straights and my heart really goes out to the people who can't feed their families. Putting food in your children's tummies is something we take for granted but just think how awful you would feel if you really couldn't afford to do that. It's such a sad thought. Anyway, if anyone gets a chance to deliver food to the food bank when people are waiting for food it's a pretty powerful thing.
