Finally!

I'm finally getting a chance to post an update from the past week. Sorry it has taken me so long, so many of you were so nice to ask how things went and send good thoughts and prayers our way.
Wednesday my eleven year old nephew had heart surgery. His surgery lasted 6-7 hours. The doctors had hoped it wouldn't take that long but status reports during surgery were telling his parents they had not fixed the problem and his heart was continuing to beat fast and irregular. They kept him under as long as they could but could not get to the spot they needed to get to. The doctor said between all the surgeons and the thousands of cases they have seen between them all that they have never seen this problem in someone so young. The doctor said they could try one more time and get a smaller catheter to hopefully get where they need to but any more than that would damage his heart too much.
Following surgery his heart started beating normal so we were all hopeful that it did get fixed but before we left the recovery room it started beating irregular and rapid again. They did send him home the next day without medication so it appeared to have improved somewhat. The next step is to have him on a heart monitor for the next couple of weeks and then decide what they will do. If they do have to perform surgery one more time and still don't fix it they will have to try to monitor it with medication and can try surgery again in 5-10 years when his heart is larger.
We were all very disappointed by the news but so thankful he made it out of surgery okay. He was throwing up all night after surgery and felt really crummy but was feeling much better the next day.
It was a long day at the hospital. I had the girls with me without Eric and K didn't get a nap that day. I'm certain we picked up a nasty stomach virus while there because we have all been extremely sick since Thursday night (Madison's started Friday afternoon). I thought we were turning the corner but my stomach is still turning circles and Kennedy threw up again just a little while ago. Madison is in a lot of stomach pain and both girls are in bed already although soon to wake up not feeling well I'm sure. It's been a very long and stressful week and we'll just have to wait and see what the heart monitor and Tanner's doctor's think is the best thing to do now.
