Garden Planting Day

We got the garden planted today (finally). The seedlings should have been planted a while ago and a couple even went to seed but we finally got them into the ground and lucked out on an amazingly gorgeous day. The girls were in full summer force playing with water and soaking up the sun. Eric is out mowing right now. We have TONS of dandelions in the yard this year, more than ever. We don't use weed killers or synthetic fertilizers so we might be stuck with them but we do have a nifty dandelion tool that gets them up by the root but there are so many that they may just have to get mowed over for a while. It's hard to tell what is planted in the above picture but that bed has all of my herbs, onions, broccoli, cauliflower and bell peppers. It also has a tomato plant (I was calling it my salsa garden earlier today, yum).

This bed has all of our peas, beans, lettuces and carrots. Carrot seeds were the only seeds I planted today since all of my seedlings took over the beds. I'm thinking we may need to expand for next year, we'll see how this year goes.

There is nothing in this bed except cucumbers. We have cucumbers, pickling cucumbers and lemon cucumbers. Cucs are one of our favorites so we planted lots of these, they will take over this entire bed, we had SO many last year and not one went to waste. I gave only a few away.

Last year I bought one small strawberry plant, split it into two and this is what has resulted. The strawberries have taken over one entire bed. We got only a few berries last year from those tiny plants but have a feeling we are in for a good strawberry year.

I did not plant zucchini or any other squash plants this year. Space was limited and they get so large. Nobody else in my family likes them except me anyway and there always seems to be an overabundance of them and people are happy to give these away. They are plentiful at the farmers markets so I'll be able to get some for myself when I want.
Hopefully I will know what is growing where a little better than yesterday. I'm anxious to see how things do and which things don't survive. I can't wait to start picking our fresh produce!!
