Today was a very busy day. We were out of the house at 8:15 a.m. Our first stop was a friends garage sale. After that we made our way down to a birthday party at the Skagit Children's Museum. We had a great time and spent our entire morning there. After we left we were on a mission to find some tulips. First we went to LaConner. I just love this charming little town right on the water. In the town of LaConner you can find salmon smoking on an outdoor fire pit just behind the little shack that sells the fry bread. The smell of this salmon is heavenly. Just behind the smoker are picnic tables overlooking the water. From this place you can smell the sea. It's not the gross sea smell that I often smell at places like Birch Bay but this smell is mild and fresh. It smells of the sea but not of fish. There is just something about it. Okay, I know I am sounding weird at this point but, unfortunately, I'm serious and I thought everything today smelled amazing.
After leaving LaConner we headed to the fields. There were quite a lot of cars and people so we mostly did drive by's. At one field Madison and Eric got out for some photo opps and because Madison really wanted to get down there and see these amazing flowers. As we dropped them off the smell of tulips filled the car. I don't recall tulips having such a fragrant smell but today they did and we could all smell their wonderfulness! Two of my other favorite smells in the entire world filled our olfactory receptors...fresh roasting coffee beans and that first smell of fresh rain. My nose was very happy today. I am still wearing the shirt I was wearing earlier today and I smell of smoked salmon, yum!
Okay, enough of the smell talk...after the tulips we had a delicious linner (lunch + dinner) at The Outback Steak House. We got a gift card for there at Christmas and just got around to using it. It was yummy and we got stuffed. After that we headed back to Bellingham and attended the 6:00 p.m. church service before heading home and putting the girls to bed. It was a very busy day but it was lovely spending the day with the family.
We have returned to Cornwall after a lengthy attempt at CTK. I never felt as comfortable at CTK but kept trying because the girls liked the kids room so much. We should have gone back sooner because after a little trepidation from Madison today she was telling us how she can't wait to go back next week. Phew! Kennedy loves it anywhere!
Despite our nice family day there was a dark cloud looming. Eric was on his way home last night after being gone all week and he called me with some bad news. My dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I wasn't quite sure what to do with this information. Despite the fact that it's awful news there is a much deeper story here and I haven't spoken to my dad aside from a quick visit at Christmas for a very long time. Eric has worked for him off and on a bit during his unemployment but my relationship with him is very strained. I think that is all I will say about that but it's been a very upsetting day and the quiet moments were a little unnerving when left with only my thoughts.
I will say that we don't have a lot of information yet and he meets with the radiologist on Tuesday and will meet with his doctor the first week of May to discuss the best treatment option based on the information from the radiologist. If it's your sort of thing we could use a prayer or two.
