Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey....Goodbye!

On Thursday morning I had a tonsillectomy. I checked in at Skagit Valley Hospital at 6:30 a.m. and the surgery was around 8:30 a.m. I did better than I thought I would do as far as anxiety goes. The anesthesiologist didn't slip me a mickey (his words, not mine) until I was on the operating table. Nothing about this surgery was fun but I have to say I had the BEST doctors and nurses, every single one of them (and there were lots) were so nice and attentive. I'm so glad I had such great health care workers around me when I had to be in such misery.
And, yes, it was misery. I had heard for the past year how much worse this surgery gets as you get older but I figured I had endured two C-Sections and countless (extremely painful) strep throats so there was no way it could be worse (or not much worse, anyway) but I really wasn't prepared for HOW painful it was/is. It has been about 56 hours since the actual surgery and I feel things are starting to level out a bit. I took more pain meds at the hospital for this surgery than I did for either c-section. Of course, I didn't have the euphoria of having a brand new baby so it's hard to actually compare the pain of the two different surgeries.
I was able to manage the anesthesia and pain meds in the hospital with the help of anti-nausea meds but was feeling so awful yesterday from all of the morphine and oxycodone that I had to stop it all. I was much happier switching to Ibuprofen and would have made the switch a lot sooner but I'm technically not supposed to take Ibuprofen or Tylenol for two weeks after the surgery because it's a blood thinner. The doctor said I could take them if I couldn't tolerate the narcotics so I'm just trying to be careful not to disturb the scabs (TMI? sorry). The back of my throat looks nasty but the Ibuprofen is helping a ton as an anti-inflammatory.
I'm so glad they are out of there and the healing is underway. My dad is here helping with he girl and I have had such wonderful help from friends who are helping get the girls to and from school, feed my family and bring me treats. That makes things like this so much nicer to endure!
