First Week of Preschool Complete

Madison's first week of preschool is complete. She did great and I'm so proud of her. I feel so good about the decision we made in preschools and everything about the school and the staff seems like their focus is to foster self confidence and social skills. They spend a lot of time focusing on how to treat others. These are the exact things I wanted preschool to be for her and I'm thrilled. Today her teacher greeted her with a kiss on the cheek and said goodbye with a hug. She's such a sweet lady and I can tell Madison really likes her.
My only complaint.......with several different classes each week they produce a ton of WASTE! After watching The Story of Stuff I see everything in terms of where it's going when we are done using it. I was hoping they had a system similar to the technical college where they used real dishes and washed them but it appears everything is disposable. They don't use plates which is good but they do use disposable cups for each child every single day. This also hinders what people bring for snacks because you really need to bring individual servings rather than one big serving to dish out separately. I am definitely not where I want to be in terms of the waste I produce (if you scroll down you will see that I used three gallon sized plastic bags for the snack I took yesterday) but I'm really trying and very aware of it. I feel very guilty when I use disposals now, especially when they involve plastic. School just started and unless I am going to volunteer to wash dishes after each class all week long I am not going to say anything. They don't have the staff to help with this but it might be a good project for the kids???
