Sneaking Up

Is it me or is Christmas sneaking up on us this year? I am attempting to make many of my Christmas gifts and I've been putting it off thinking I had plenty of time but time is running out. I think it's because Thanksgiving is late this year. Regardless...I had better get busy!
I am very excited for the holidays this year. It's been a rocky year for us and I'm looking forward to the holidays. It's one of my favorite times of year. Holiday time can be a bit stressful but I don't think we're over scheduled (yet) and I'm really looking forward to all the holiday get-togethers. This time of year just seems to bring people together.
I am also feeling much more charitable this year given some hardships we have had. I really feel for families who are going without this time of year and and am really looking forward to helping in a few different ways this year. We were very lucky to come out of our situation fairly quickly but just a few more weeks of no job would have resulted in a completely different outcome. It doesn't take much for a family to lose everything and not be able to give there children a simple gift for the holidays let alone food in many instances. That just breaks my heart. I am having a bit of trouble conveying the feeling of charity to Madison. We were trying to buy a gift today for a four year old girl who wanted a Barbie. Madison wanted to bring it home for herself but when I explained it was for another little girl she threw a fit demanding that I didn't get any of the ones she thought were cute. She has this thing lately where she doesn't want anyone else to have something that she has or that she wants. I didn't get the Barbie today. I'm hoping to get her involved in the giving this year and I wanted the experience to be a little more pleasant. Maybe it's wishful thinking but I'll try and talk to her a little more and we'll try again. She's only four so I understand that she can't quite wrap her brain around it yet. There are lots more years for her to grasp the concept a bit better.
Gotta go and continue knitting a scarf for someone's Christmas gift.
