I don't like to "suggest" things to people who are not asking my opinion but my calendar showed last week that it was time to update the girls' ID & Fingerprint kits so I did. I'm also reading a book (The Lovely Bones) which is written from the perspective of a murdered 14 year old girl. Anyway, I just thought I would share with the few of you that read my blog and may not know about them......the police stations have these ID & Fingerprinting kits that allow you to collect your children's fingerprints and a DNA sample as well as record information about your child in the event they go missing. Nobody wants to ever thing about such a thing but I do feel better knowing I have these updated if the unthinkable happens. Unexpectedly it also became a very good opportunity to go over with Madison again how not everybody is nice and what to do if someone tries to take her. She was very interested in DNA and went around the house asking me and her dad if police officers have DNA, if I have DNA, if her dad has DNA, if her friends have DNA, etc. She thought it was pretty neat that we all had DNA in every cell of our body. Anyway, I don't think they need to be updated every 6 months but I do it because it's so easy and you can get these kits free at the B'ham or Ferndale police station.
By the way, Madison absolutely loves a movie we often check out from the library called Stranger Safety. It's kind of annoying for parents but full of GREAT information presented in a way that really interests the kiddos. By the way.....Lisa & Megan - if you ever hear Madison say you are her "Safe Side Adult" that's because of this movie and you are the two we designated as such.
Okay, enough of that.
