Field Trip to the Farm

Today was Field Trip Day! Madison's class was heading to the farm today. I feel so fortunate to be able to go along for these special days and be a part of the experience. This was the first time Kennedy has gotten to come and participate with Madison's class and to say she was excited would be the understatement of the century. If someone had told her she didn't belong with this group today she would have called them crazy, and they would have been. She fit right in!

This was a very long field trip. We left for the farm around 9:45 a.m. and didn't return back to the school until about 2:15 p.m. The kids were interactive, engaged, entertained and happy the whole time. It was such a wonderful field trip with so many different activities. Everyone involved had an amazing time.

Teacher Kristi had some help from her daughter's to talk about the different animals. She was incredibly gracious to open up her home to us all like she did.

If there was one kid who might have been pushing her way to the front and raising her hand anytime a question was asked it just might have been Kennedy.

Checking out the cows.

The baby goats could not have been cuter.

Quack, Quack!

Learning about the chickens.

The Shetland Pony.

I realized how much more difficult it was for me to take Kennedy....she knew it wasn't time to touch the pony yet but she couldn't help herself. I didn't mean to get this picture but she was sneaking in for a touch just as I was snapping the picture. Honestly, she did AMAZING for a 3 year old. She listened and followed directions and was loving being a part of it all.

Lunch time!

After they went around the farm and learned a little bit about each animal and had lunch it was time to break into groups and rotate stations. We got to start at the play structure.

This is Kennedy in the very high tree house.

There goes Madison. The stairs made me slightly nervous because there wasn't much foot clearance. The ladder was right on the tree so there was just the little bit of space for your foot on the ladder and none to hang off the other side. After our group they announced that the kids couldn't go up into the tree house. I guess they thought it was too dangerous but our kids got to go up and they loved it.

Whee!

After the swingset we headed over to the chicken coup. They had several different kinds of chickens. This little guy was a bantam chicken.

It took her a few tries but she finally held a chicken. I felt really bad for the chicken but the man of the house said it was okay.

Next we were off to the petting zoo with some goats and bunnies.

Might as well sweep while I'm here.

Madison holding the bunny.

Next we moved on to the goat area. Before we left this area one of the little ones started nursing. The kids were in awe by this, it was really neat to point it out and see how interested they were in it.

Girls just wanna have fun!

Hand feeding.

Next we moved on to the pony and the kids got a chance to brush it.

Madison having a turn.

Kennedy and Teacher Maridell, Kennedy LOVES her. The older kids were off sketching some pictures of some of their favorite animals.

Lastly, the kids had a game of duck, duck, goose and then a scavenger hunt around the farm followed by a cookie. A long, fun, educational day. It was the stuff memories are made of.
