Padilla Bay

Today we went down to Padilla Bay again for their Stories and Songs activity for Young Explorers. We had lots of fun. The drive in the wind and rain was interesting but we had fun singing to Christmas songs. I am trying really hard to resist the urge to dive into Christmas fun and push through these final two weeks of my quarter first. Once that is done I'm devoting December to Christmas and making lots of memories and fun!

Here we are inside. They have a great area for learning lots of things and they have an even better hands on room with really cool things for the kids to play with.

The only picture I got of Kennedy today turned out blurry. She's cute as a bug even when she is blurry.

I love this display. Before I went there last time I didn't realize only 1% of the water on the planet is available to us as fresh water. 97% is in the ocean and 2% is frozen in ice caps. I find it very interesting and worrisome at the same time. I watched a documentary called Blue Gold: World Water Wars which was very good. Here is a little blurb from the website:

In every corner of the globe, we are polluting, diverting, pumping, and wasting our limited supply of fresh water at an exponential level as population and technology grows. The rampant over development of agriculture, housing and industry increase the demands for fresh water well beyond the finite supply, resulting in the desertification of the earth.

There are some really heartbreaking scenes about the water many people on this planet have to resort to drinking and feeding to their babies. I don't think this is in the movie but a huge problem (to put it mildly) in Africa is woman having to choose between feeding their babies AIDS infested breastmilk or mixing formula with dirty water and the babies dying within months anyway. Clean water is a privilege and so easily taken for granted. I hate seeing water being wasted but know I spent many years wasting water myself before I knew better. Even now I do more laundry than I should but I'm working on it.
