Sledding at Sterling

Despite my frustration at holiday shopping I couldn't pass up the deals on Black Friday so my plan was to go whenever I woke up which is usually early when we are not home. I woke up around 5:30 or so and was going to take my dad's truck shopping but the lights weren't working. I tried them for about 10 minutes and finally turned it off, tromped through the snow (without boots) to the bedroom window where Eric and the girls were (since I had locked myself out of the house). He tried to get them to work and finally did but then the tail lights weren't working (a wire short we later realized). He was going to attempt to get my van up their steep driveway but Nancy woke up by then and was going to go with me. In the meantime Eric was trying to get my car up the driveway but couldn't. An hour or so later we were on our way. Not as early as I had hoped to be shopping but it ended up being better since we missed all of the really huge crowds. Between Fred Meyer and Target there was only one thing on my list that I didn't get because they were sold out. Success!
Above is a picture of my dad pulling my van out of his driveway later that day so we could leave. A 4 wheel drive is a must over there. Once we were out of the driveway we got around fine, it was just getting up the hill that presented the challenge.

Here we are at Sterling Middle School, the middle school I attended and the middle school that I sled down as a kid so many times. I felt it was a right of passage of sorts to take the girls sledding here. I remember the graduation from sledding the "baby" hills and moving on to Sterling.

They had SO much fun. Kennedy was fearless, as usual and scared me to death. She was ready to head down head first right off the bat. I made her go down with Eric for a long time before I let her go on her own and then, eventually, I let her go head first but I took her down halfway first. Yes, overprotective mom but I remember hitting my head and all sorts of things on this hill as a kid.

Ready, set...go!

I couldn't believe how far they sailed once they hit the bottom.

Kennedy started getting tired after a dozen trips or so.

A nice girl helped Kennedy pull her sled back up. It was so cute.
A view from the bottom. It may not look that big but the sleds go fast down this hill.

And there is my three year old (and husband on the other sled) going head first. What a fun time sledding. What's the best place to go after some sledding at Sterling? Abby's Pizza, of course.
