Quite a day

Yesterday was an interesting day to say the least. Many of you who are on facebook already know the biggest event of the day but for those who aren't....

I let Kennedy play with an ornament off the tree yesterday while I was holding her. When she was done I went to hang the ornament back on the tree and noticed the main tree stem "moving". I jumped back then went in for a closer look and found hundreds (more likely thousands) of spiders all on the tree. From a few feet back the tree trunk looked black completely. It was absolutely disgusting. I freaked out and didn't know what to do. I tried to call Eric but he wasn't answering his phone. We were hiding out in the bedroom for a while. I did a quick search on the internet and saw something about citronella essential oil so I mixed up a half a bottle of that with very little water. I wasn't thinking very clearly because it totally stunk and made the spiders move. I feared they would move out of the tree. I couldn't stand it any longer so we left. When I got home they had dispersed around the tree instead of clumping so closely together. Some were dead and many others seemed to be moving extremely slow but many were fine. The smell was so bad I got a headache within minutes of being home so I knew we would have to get rid of the tree completely. When Eric got home he took off the ornaments and we got it outside. I was so freaked out by the spiders I actually held the tree up by a long set of tongs when Eric was loosening it from the tree stand from below. He got it outside and we vacuumed REALLY well and vacuumed all the couch cushions and under them. I'm washing all the blankets we have in the living room. Despite all the spiders I never found more than one or two (at a time) away from the tree. I think they stayed on the tree for the most part (at least I'm hoping so). Anyway, the tree is outside on the deck covered in snow now. He got the lights and the angel off after it was outside and they are in a tub in the garage. I was worried they might have spiders on them too. I'm disappointed because it won't be the same without a tree but I'm a little nervous to get a new one for fear of the same thing. No harm done and we haven't been eaten by spiders but it was a pretty horrifying event. I actually like spiders and we don't kill them in this house (we set them free outside) but that was just WAY TOO MANY for my liking. I upset Madison by freaking out so she is glad it's gone too but she did tell me today she liked the baby spiders. There must have been egg sacks in the tree that hatched because we would have noticed that many spiders and many of them were very very tiny. YUCK!!!!

Besides that our water went out for a little while yesterday and when it came back on it was a dirty color. It cleared up somewhat but wasn't completely clear. We all had to shower or take a bath in that water and we didn't drink it because I didn't think we should.

What a day. I'll post a couple of pictures so you can all get grossed out. YUCK!!!
