It seems I pull my sewing machine out once a year to attempt a new project. This year my project is reusable sandwich/snack bags. I bought some similar bags prior to the beginning of the school year and I am happy to report that I didn't use one plastic bag all year in school lunches! I wasn't sure if I would like these bags and was worried they would not keep the bread soft and fresh but they do. I couldn't have been happier with them. Instead of buy more I figured I could make my own. I also wanted to make them for gifts (above is a bundle of two for one of Kennedy's preschool teachers). I am far from a proficient sewer but I think they turned out okay. My lines aren't exactly straight but they do the trick and I am pleased with how they turned out.
These are the ones I finished tonight to pack in the teacher gift bags.
It was so much fun to go pick out fabric for these.
They are lined with leak-resistant nylon (BPA, PVC and pthalate free). They have a Velcro closure. These are among my first but I think I'll use some wider Velcro next time.
The monkey ones were the first ones I made. Madison's classroom is "McCormack's Monkeys" so I thought these would be good for her gift bag.
I LOVE owls and am so excited to tackle some more with these fabrics. It's taking me longer than I expected to make them but having all of the fabric and liners cut out is going to make things go much faster.
So, there ARE alternatives to the plastic sandwich bag and the alternatives are SO much cuter : )
