Allergies?

I have no idea what is going on with Kennedy and her tummy aches. I have such an appreciation for good doctors. I think my appreciation stems from years of working with doctors and from having average doctors in the past. Our whole family is finally all seeing excellent doctors and it makes such a huge difference. I took Kennedy in to see her doctor this morning because she woke up extra earl in a lot of pain from her tummy ache. I had already planned to call the doctor this morning and possibly take her in but with her bad episode this morning I knew I had to get her in right away. She also has a rash that I didn't know about, I thought it could be related somehow especially if we were talking about allergies.
The nurse looked at her rash and said she might have strep throat. This surprised me because that was nowhere on my radar. They did a rapid strep test which came back negative. Her doctor confirmed that strep often has a rash much like the one she had but he said it was most likely viral. She has a cold and her throat was slightly red but thankfully it wasn't step. That takes care of the rash...now on to the tummy aches.
The doctor could tell I wanted to be pro-active (I think he said something to that effect). Since he was going to order blood tests anyway he made sure to check all sorts of things. He ordered a blood count, Vit. D, allergy testing for dairy, eggs, peanuts and gluten among other things that I can't remember off hand. In the meantime I am continuing to keep her off milk, take her off high fructose fruits (which are basically all of them except ones she will never eat like limes) and start her on a probiotic. He did tell me that actual food allergies don't usually present with that kind of crampy tummy ache so I'm holding on to that. The results will finally tell us something or rule out some things, either way it's progress. The reason I am taking her off high fructose fruits is to try and rule out fructose malabsorption. They don't test for it up here, you have to go to Children's an get a hydrogen breath test so taking her off high fructose fruits seemed easier for now.
If all of the tests come back okay and she is still having more tummy pain I'll go in and talk to him again about how to proceed next.
When Kennedy got her blood drawn she was so scared. I felt so bad for her but she was SO amazing! As soon as the needle went into her arm she stopped crying and asked the Phlebotomist a ton of questions. She watched her blood fill up the tube and thought it looked "purple" (it did look burgundy). She is such a brave girl.

Poor Kennedy! I hope you get some answers soon. I grew up with constant tummy aches, too. I spent most of my childhood not eating dairy because that's what we thought it was. Turns out it was gluten AND dairy. I hope it's something else for her, something easily fixed. BUT I have to say that she can present with tummy aches and have a food allergy, it's just a different type of allergy. Doctors only look for a specific type, I can't remember which one but there are different types, IGG, IGA, IGE, etc. Dr. Wessels does a 99 food allergy test that can find other reactions to foods. I'm not an expert so I'm sure I'm confusing you more. Good luck Jen! I know it's hard when they are not feeling well.
