We first visiting this park last year and camped. We loved it so much I booked a weekend here for this summer too. This park is incredibly clean, well-maintained and absolutely beautiful. They have a fantastic playground and a gorgeous river.
As we arrived Friday afternoon.
One of the best things about the river is the walk to get there. There is a lovely trail leading down to the river and this amazingly big tree. I have a picture of the family standing in front of it last year too.
A closer view. There is a big hollowed out area of this tree, it's quite unusual and beautiful.
On our walk to the river we saw dozens of these. We thought they were caterpillars but I've been researching them and think they are actually Sawfly Larva. Whatever they were they were abundant.
Photo of the Skagit River from the beach. The river here has a strong current and drops off very quickly. Eric was with the girls whenever they were near the shoreline.
I thought the girls would have fun here but I had no idea how much fun. They had an amazing time playing in the sand and making sand castles. I wish I had packed our lunch because we could have stayed there all day long. We were there a couple of hours and the weather was absolutely perfect. I was laying on a beach towel with my feet warm in the sand and the sun shining down on me. I could have easily fallen asleep there. It was perfect.
My Beauty holding some sand.
Kennedy was very focused on her sand castle and did it all by herself. She didn't not want any help.
Eric's moat.
We had two small bags of fishy crackers and a half a bag of Pirate Booty and they both got so much sand in them upon opening.
My beach babe!
After the beach jaunt we had to take showers. There was sand in every nook and cranny imaginable. All clean and ready for more camping fun!
This park has great programs. We attended the "Creatures of the Night" program on Friday night and learned so much about nocturnal animals. It was such a great thing to do while camping.
This was the path to the great amphitheater.
This is where their programs are held. Typically they show a movie on Friday nights here, a program on Saturday night and a Junior Ranger Program on Sunday morning. There was no movie this time around but I don't think my kids would have wanted to sit and watch a movie for that long anyway.
Sunday morning we went to the Junior Rangers Program. This was great. They got do learn so much about a bunch of different indigenous animals. Miss Kennedy was first since her birthday was the closest. She was the youngest there (by far) and went right up to pick something out of the box to learn about. She picked a salmon skeleton. We also learned the greatest trick about salmon, there are five kinds - if you hold up your five fingers you have Chum as your thumb (chum rhymes with thumb), Sockeye for your index finger (you can poke your eye with your pointy finger), King for your middle finger (it's the biggest), Silver for your ring finger (that is where you wear your "silver" ring) and Pink for your pinky. Very fun, Madison still remembers all of them.
There she was with her salmon skeleton. The Park Ranger was very nice and helped her try and figure it out. She hinted enough to get Kennedy to guess "fish"!
Miss K was loving the attention.
Afterwards they all got a great goody bag and a Junior Ranger card with their name on it.
The loot!
We spent the weekend here with some good friends. Camping is always more fun with friends!
Grabbing one last juice pouch before we left.
Enough pictures mom!
Another great camping weekend behind us. We'll definitely be back next year.
