Seaside

On our second full day in Oregon (Wednesday) we headed to Seaside. We stayed on the West side of Portland purposefully since we knew we would be heading to Seaside for a day. It was less than 1 1/2 hours from our hotel. This picture was taken at a little roadside stand (Jim Dandy's Farm Market) where we stopped on the way to buy some raspberries and blueberries to snack on.

We arrived at Seaside fairly early. This was the girls' first time there. I can't believe we hadn't taken them sooner, it was such a fun day. This is a picture taken on the Promenade looking down towards the Aquarium.
You really can't go to Seaside without going to the Aquarium. The Seaside Aquarium is one of the oldest Aquariums on the West coast, it was established in 1937. I remember vividly visiting this aquarium as a child. It's famous for it's seals and Eric had talked a lot about these seals to the girls before we went so they were really looking forward to it. We bought a tray of fish to feed them but the girls didn't want to touch them. I think they both threw one each (one more than I threw). Grandma threw the rest. I think the seals have such cute faces.
We got a hot tip about this great little ice cream shop in Seaside. The ice cream is homemade and we saw the machines they make it in. It was the best ice cream. I had Oreo Cookie and it had actual Oreo Cookies in it, not just the chocolate wafers but the whole cookie. It was delicious.
Kennedy thought so too!
Another iconic spot in Seaside is the Carousel. The girls rode it 2 or 3 times.
We were walking down a street and passed by a little train ride place and Miss Kennedy stopped for a ride. She was the only one on the train but she didn't care.
Then...it was time to hit the beach!
I'm in love with this picture of Kennedy.
I can't even begin to describe how much fun we had down on the beach. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to pee my pants. We went out in the water a little bit and the waves were coming which took us off balance a bit and the girls thought it was the funniest and neatest thing ever. We were running all around and the waves knocked Kennedy over more times than I could count. My mom stayed up on the Promenade with our stroller so she missed out on the fun but it was such a great time with my gals.
Waiting for a wave...
Here it comes...run!
Sunscreened skin + water + sand = this
We were all covered in sand when we left but we didn't care.
I had to chuckle before we headed down to the beach...my mom noticed Kennedy playing in a bit of dirt and mentioned to me that she needed to rinse her hands off when we got down to the water. Ha, I told her to just wait and see what Kennedy looked like when we got back.
Thankfully they have showers to rinse off some of the sand before heading back up the stairs. They were helpful but the sand stuck like glue to the sunscreen.
Toweled off and some fresh clothes later and they were asleep within minutes of heading back to our hotel. What an amazing day. We all wished we had planned to spend two days in Seaside. Next time...
