We managed to fit one more play in before school started this year. Last Saturday afternoon I took Madison to see The Sound of Music presented by BAAY Theatre. It was at the Bellingham High School and we had been looking forward to it for weeks.
I felt the need to take pictures with the flag in the background since it was September 11th and there is always a sense of sadness and remembrance on this day.
Some friends met us there. I'm finding trips and outings with just us aren't as fun anymore as the girls get older. They always want to know "who is going to be there" or "who is coming with us". We still have fun on solo trips but there is just something more fun about having a friend along.
After picking the perfect seats. Waiting for the show to begin.
Silly girls at intermission. The play was nearly 3 hours long. It was a bit too long for 6 year olds but they did great. Looking back we should have probably left at intermission because the last part of the play was a bit too much for little ones. It didn't have the fun singing and dancing and there and was over their heads.
Another flag picture.
The girls loved climbing around on this structure and were jumping off of it. It made me nervous since it was quite a jump but no harm done and it was a wonderful afternoon spent with my girl. I can't wait to take her to the next one. We will definitely have to hit a production of The Nutcracker this Christmas.
The program. The girl playing Maria was amazing. She had a wonderful voice.
The cast.
The rest of the cast. I was really surprised by the quality of the production and the amount of cast members. There were a lot of actors and the costumes were really nice. I wasn't expecting such a grand production done by kids. It was impressive.
The last page of the program and our last play for a while. We've seen some great ones. Madison loves The Sound of Music and we have been listening to the CD in the car non-stop. I love how a play can spark such interest in things for kids, more so than movies or even books sometimes.
