85 Years Apart

We went to Yakima last weekend to celebrate my Grandma's 88th birthday and Kennedy's 3rd birthday. We arrived on Friday afternoon and checked into our hotel. They had an outdoor pool so the kids were excited to get right in. Yakima is a very hot place, much like Wenatchee and we were expecting really warm weather but as soon as we got there and got in the pool a storm started with thunder and lightening. It wasn't really cold but the sun was behind clouds and Madison wanted to get out. Kennedy would have stayed in there even with teeth chattering but Eric said he didn't exactly want to be in a swimming pool with lightening overhead so that was cut short. We went to dinner across the parking lot and had some delicious teriyaki chicken and rice and then met my Grandma and Aunt for milkshakes. This was the first time my Grandma and Aunt had met Kennedy and the second time they met Madison. I feel badly we haven't made more of an effort to take the girls to Yakima, we will need to work harder on that. They had the best time together, it was so wonderful to see.

The next morning we checked out of our hotel and headed to my Grandma's house where we were all going to meet. On the way we stopped at a little grocery store so I could get my grandma some flowers. We parked and Eric and the girls were going to stay in the car while I ran in. There was some confusion and Madison changed her mind and wanted to come in so we started getting out only to have Kennedy want to come in so we all went inside. We went inside only to find out there weren't any flowers, the store was too small for that so we went back to the car to realize the keys were locked inside. In all the confusion I left the keys inside because Eric and Kennedy were going to be in the car. Ugh! I always have a magnet key holder in my wheel well but it either didn't get replaced last time I used it or it fell off, we haven't figured it out yet. Regardless, I had to call my insurance company and we waited for an hour to get the locksmith out and let us back inside. Phew, problem resolved and we were, once again, on our way. Thankfully they had a few entertaining things for the kids to do while we waited and $2.00 mochas for me.

Yee-Haw!

Thankfully it wasn't too hot over there or we would have been roasting.

We finally made it to Grandma's house. There were birthday presents waiting for Madison and Kennedy. Kennedy opened hers in front of everyone but Madison opted to go outside with Eric and open hers in the car. They loved these microphones they got.

This has been a really fun game, we've played it several times since she got it last weekend.

It's always a strange feeling for me to see my girls in places that I spent so much time in as a kid. I wish we could have spent more time there but we'll make another trip over soon. Grandma opened some gifts from all of us as well and then we headed to lunch

Mom and Russ.

Russ and my Grandma.

Aunt Kathy and Eric.

Robin and my brother, Kevin.

My nephews, Tyler and Tanner. Tyler just got his drivers license. Oh my! I feel old!

Cindy and my Uncle Fritz.

The whole gang after lunch outside of the restaurant. We had so much fun and it was so neat to get everyone together. We had a long drive ahead of us though and had to get back on the road.

We stopped at Ihop around Marysville for a quick dinner on our way home. The girls were wiped out and so were we.

Fruity pancakes for my fruity girl. What a lovely trip we had celebrating two special ladies 85 years apart.
